Trellis Earth™ products are the true biodegradable alternative to toxic Styrofoam™ containers and polyethylene plastic bags.
What are bioplastics?
Bioplastics are degradable and in some cases, compostable, plastics derived from renewable raw materials such as starch (from corn, potato, or tapioca) or sugar cane fiber. Bioplastics are not hazardous in production and decompose in the environment when discarded.
Why choose bioplastics?
Plastic bags and traditional plastic products require great amounts of energy and raw materials, such as natural gas, oil, and coal, to produce and recycle. Only approximately 1-3% of plastic bags are recycled, leaving millions of bags clogging our landfills, littering our neighborhoods, and killing our marine life. Additionally, plastics in our landfills will take hundreds of years to degrade and tax our environment by leaching dangerous toxins.
The time needed to degrade or compost bioplastics varies. However, all will ultimately either degrade naturally from microorganisms over time, or will break down to carbon dioxide, water, inorganic compounds, and biomass at a rate consistent with known compostable materials and leaves NO toxic residue.
What is unique about Trellis EarthTM products?
Trellis Earth is proud to be the premier provider of the most advanced bioplastic products available. Based on polylactic acid (PLA) technology, we have added PLA-related ingredients, resulting in greater heat and wear resistance than bioplastics made from pure PLA, sugar cane, or potato starch. In addition:
Emrg+N+See staff Hospitality and Emrg+N+See food vendors using our product have made a conscious decision to drastically reduce the amount of waste left behind this weekend. Trellis Earth™ wants to work with your business to make the same transition. To learn more, please contact Ian Smith at 503.928.9721 or ian@trellisearth.com.

NW Rock Medicine was started in 1995 by Rob Zalunardo in Portland, Oregon at the Memorial Day Grateful Dead show with a handful of friends and fellow medics. Since then, we have developed into an organized group of over 100 volunteers, over 40 of them active. When Rob left to chase a dream in the culinary arts at the close of 1999, Seth Grant assumed the task of organizing NW Rock Medicine along with some very dedicated friends.
Based on a similar volunteer organization in San Francisco (Rock Medicine, est. 1973), we share ideologies to provide non-profit, non-judgmental volunteer medical support to concerts in the region. From sunburns to psychedelic management to heart attacks, all of our services are free of charge, thanks to donations. Our staff ranges from MD to layperson, and all trained in CPR and First Aid.
We do what we do to accomplish two goals:
We accomplish this through the application of non-judgmental healthcare at the site, itself. By operating a first aid station and employing teams into a venue, we can treat and release many more patrons than traditional methods have allowed.
We coin ourselves as "The NW Music Lover's HMO" because a lot of people out there don't have adequate healthcare. What we offer is that basic healthcare that most of these individuals would not otherwise have. Additionally, we offer the insight of preventative medicine. Doing a "walk-through" of a venue before a show and correcting trouble spots makes our jobs much easier and keeps the crowd a lot safer. The stats on crowd safety speak louder than words and we are making a difference.
